Welcome back and let’s focus on key values
Gene Strickland/Hobbs Municipal Schools
Hobbs Eagle Family and Community, welcome to 2024-2025! The year is off to a great start and is promising to be a great year for our students. As we move from August to September, I would like to share a few things with our community regarding Hobbs Schools.
Hobbs Schools maintains a number of Key Values that inform who we are and help to illustrate what appropriate looks like in our behaviors, actions, words and development. Each month, we highlight and focus on one of those Values, August has been Student-Centered. I hope that each of you were able to take part in the Lea County Fair and Rodeo. We had students participate in the phenomenal event and we believe those opportunities and experiences to be of extreme value to students. Each and every activity that students participate in helps to develop skills that are non-academic and empowers students to take an active role. Join me in recognizing all of our students who are engaged in their development through a wide offering of activities our community offers our students.
An additional value is Service and will be the value of September. As we highlight Service, we are focused on meeting the need by a number of descriptors. An example of service-serve others with intentionality and be willing to go above and beyond our responsibilities was evident at a recent Professional Learning time for Hobbs Schools staff. Students from our band, football team, cheer, student council and others took time from their day away from school to celebrate and acknowledge the staff of Hobbs Schools contributes to the students of Hobbs. They attended a pep rally type event for staff and welcomed them as they arrived. It was a great example of service and I am grateful to the students who took their time to celebrate our staff. They served very well! To submit a shout out of a member of the Hobbs Schools community displaying a Value, please visit our website at www.hobbsschools.net and click on the Mission, Vision and Values icon.
The mission of Hobbs Schools communicates that we provide a safe learning environment that ignites and fosters passion so that all learners are provided with high-quality education that opens doors to endless opportunities. We consistently examine our practices with a lens on safety. As such, our campuses have been and will continue to participate in various protective response protocols throughout the school year. Those responses follow a simple easy to understand model that is used in classrooms, with parents and in cooperation of our emergency responders. The measures available from our Standard Response Protocol are Evacuation, Shelter, Secure, Lockdown and Hold. In the event of an incident requiring a protective measure, we ask for the community’s cooperation in supporting our desire to provide for the safety of all occupants. Cooperation does not include sharing information that is rumor, unverified or simply false. These actions only complicate the response for individuals as well as may compromise the safety of occupants. Hobbs Schools will communicate with our parents with timely and accurate information. When we do communicate those messages, we would ask for the community’s support in sharing the accurate information to help quelch the false narratives meant to glamorize, dramatize and create additional concern.
When there are pieces of information that would be beneficial to the safety and well-being of students and staff, please use appropriate methods to share that information so that we can respond accordingly. We have STOPit as an anonymous reporting tool that is campus specific. Reporters can submit information that staff will follow up on. Emailing or calling school staff is another acceptable form of reporting concerning information. Face-to-face reports are welcome also. We have even had individuals share information to us using the Direct Message feature of our social media channels.
Join us in welcoming and supporting a new school year! Hobbs is great because of the kids, parents, staff and community! GO EAGLES!
