Hobbs Police Department officers are investigating two homicides that occurred on Tuesday night at approximately 6:19 p.m. on the 2400 block of N. Jefferson St. and 11:50 p.m. on the 1500 block of Yeso Place.
Cheyenne Land, 27, of Hobbs, was found unresponsive inside of her residence on the 2400 block of N. Jefferson St. by HPD officers.
According to an HPD report, officers responded to a disturbance call at the Four Seasons Apartments and Land was pronounced dead at the scene after EMS attempted life-saving measures.
An autopsy has not yet been performed to determine cause of death.
The second homicide on Tuesday was Omar “Nathan” Barron, 24, of Hobbs.
According to an HPD release, Barron was found unresponsive inside of his residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Hobbs EMS attempted life-saving measures until Barron succumbed to his injuries. HPD would not release information about what area the gunshot wound was located on Barron.
“The guys have been running down leads since the moment we left briefing this morning,” HPD Captain Chad Wright said. “We processed the scenes and we had a new shift of guys come in that were on days off. Everybody got briefed and we hit the ground running.
“We’ve been after it all day. I promise you we are working diligently and there is no one that wants a resolution more than me. It’s not a good feeling when you know that someone could do something like that and is still running around.”
According to Wright, both investigations are ongoing and HPD is asking for anybody with information about either case to contact HPD at 575-397-9265 or Lea County Crime Stoppers at 575-393-8005.
