2 Hobbs men arrested on armed robbery charges

Hobbs Police Department officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Diamond Lil’s Saloon at around 1:18 a.m. Sunday.

The victim reported that while he was at the establishment, he was approached by two individuals, identified as Adrian Carmona, 25, and Jawan Mackey, 30, both of Hobbs. The victim got into a vehicle with Carmona and Mackey in order to get out of the rain when Carmona pulled a gun out and pointed it at him and demanded he hand over his wallet and phone.

After turning the items over and being threatened not to contact the police, the victim got out of the vehicle and it left the premises.

HPD detectives were able to locate Carmona outside of the Broadway Apartments, where he was found armed with a handgun matching the description of the one used in the robbery, as well as the items belonging to the victim. Carmona also had narcotics in his possession. Mackey, was located inside of Carmona’s apartment. After interviews were completed both men were arrested and booked into Hobbs City Jail.

Carmona was charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, bribery or intimidation of witness, a third-degree felony, possession of cocaine, a fourth-degree felony, possession of marijuana and the unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon, both misdemeanors.

Mackey was charged with accessory to robbery, a second degree felony.
