Hobbsan arrested on battery charges

From Hobbs Police Department:

Officers responded to a request to check the welfare of an individual at a home in the 1000 block of East Snyder on Monday, June 26 at approximately 10:54 am. While conducting the welfare check, officers noticed that the female resident of the home appeared to have an injury to her leg, as well as other obvious cuts, scrapes and bruises on her body. After questioning the woman and two of her 3 children about her injuries and how she received them, it was revealed that 26-year-old Hector Cuevas, of Hobbs, was responsible.

The investigation revealed that the female received multiple injuries over the course of the last 7 months all over her body. She had several broken bones to include her leg, forearm, ribs, and nose. Her leg was broken when Cuevas struck her with a metal pipe and her forearm was re-injured after being thrown down after having surgery to repair an initial broken arm caused by Cuevas. Her ribs were broken after Cuevas struck her with brass knuckles as well as her nose after being repeatedly punched in the face. Some of the instruments used to inflict the other multitude of injuries include a metal bar, sledge hammer, and screwdriver.

Cuevas was taken into custody at the scene and charged with 20 counts of Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member, all third-degree felonies. His bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety or 10 percent to the court.
